5. When and how is reading taught in a Public Waldorf school?

Charter schools are required to address the achievement gap that exists between children of different socio-economic backgrounds and races in our school district, state, and nation.  At Constellation Charter School we acknowledge this achievement gap, and are committed to providing an education that seeks to close this achievement gap.  As a Public Waldorf initiative, our curriculum provides a well rounded education in English Language Arts, and specifically in reading.  Developmentally appropriate reading literacy preparation begins at the youngest ages and progresses through the grades.  For children who come to us needing reading remediation, or for children who struggle with reading, we use a method (Phono-Graphix) with an exceptional track record of bringing children to grade level reading in a short period of time.
